Default Character Lookup (To see how good a person is)

Add a new option to press on your keyboard like the Y button to bring up a lookup screen telling stats of the person. You can do this anywhere, it's not limited to towns only.

What it WILL do:
You type in a character name and it will tell you how old the character is, whether or not it's PVP or RP, the character's current professions, Title progresses, it's percentage of skills unlocked, and the account's total unlocks. Here's a quick example (Numbers and %s aren't accurate, I just made them up to illustrate my point):

(Tab 1: Character)
Kai Nui (RP) (Click the name to send whisper)
Current Guild [Tag]
Mesmer/Monk
232/232 (100%) Mesmer Skills Unlocked
120/240 (50%) Monk Skills Unlocked
000/250 (0%) Ranger skills Unlocked
015/200 (3%) Necromancer skills Unlocked
etc....

(Tab 2: Titles)
Titles
Just like you'd normally see them

(Tab 3: Account)
Account
Core Unlocks: 100%
Prophecies Unlocks: 100%
Factions Unlocks: 67%
Nightfall Unlocks: 22%
Skills Unlocks: 72%
Upgrades/Runes Unlocks: 88%

It will NOT tell you the person's armor, attributes, skill set, email address, other characters or how long they've been playing today or where they're playing.

If I'm running a guild with PVPers, I want to see how much they've unlocked and I also want an easy way to see how much I've unlocked.

Grinding would be like seeing how much money they have, what their best item is, how many minipets, what kind of armor they have, and how many ectos are in the bank.

I don't think seeing how many unlocks a person has is grind, depends on who's playing. Either way, it shows how versitile a person can be aswell as how far they've gotten. If you grind by doing FOTM builds only in HoH to get your skills that you don't use, then yeah it's grind if that's what you're into.

Doesn't really say how good a player is, it just says how much they have unlocked.

Default not a bad idea but it isn't necessary

This is essentially a virtual data bank of player accounts and their characters individual achievements.

Pro: It would be great for PvP in order to find out what you want about the people you're interested in recruiting. That way you'll know if they are who they claim to be. Things like rank, amount of faction, %age of items unlocked, champ points, etc.

Con: Would take a considerable amount of time for the people at Anet to put it together and fix the tons of bugs that will come with it when it goes live. Also isn't very useful for PvE.

Perhaps something like this will be implemented into GW2.

Perhaps other characters do not want you to see how much they have achieved.

Sure, and that's a suggestion as old as the game.

But with pvp packs, fame farming and all other disasters, all these metrics are completely unrelated to how good a player is.

This is more my way of thinking.

No actually this is just a way to see how much grind a person's done. Is unlocking every single skill for every profession really necessary? (no) Does it make you a better player? (no) Does having a good title make you a better player? (no) Is it a colossol waste of time? (yes, to some no)

I like the idea of having the ability to click on a player's name and see a profile of that player in a little pop-up window inside Guild Wars.

What the information box would display is down to the player the information is based on. Players have the choice of what information they wish to display in their profile.

The profile box would also have a list of all player names on that account (with little avatars of the players apperance).

So just because I've only unlocked like ~40 skills on my ranger means I'm not a good ranger? You don't need tons of skills to own in PvE. Somehow somebody is better then you because they bothered to unlock Oguthy's Cry?

This is just bad.

*goes to check Data Protection Act details*

I think this would make it much easier for the elitest PvP guilds we all love so much to not give anyone not as elite a chance at it
Soon as someone tried to join you'd do that and say no. I don't really like PvP and thats what this is aimed at so i can't pretend to be expert at effect it will have but one thing i notice about most PvP guilds is they look at player ability not the player and i think thats really bad.

Basically this is turning the players into a string of numbers thats easy to pick them apart and leave them
"I am not a number — I am a free man!" springs to mind.

People can be discriminated against for having every skill and elite in the game unlocked except for a few. Meaning if there are a few skills you don't have unlocked, you could be called the ingame derrogatory N word "noob" and refused an invite to a party or guild.

5 min chatting to anyone or just watching them chat tells you everything you need to know about how good they are.

Stand in any town square in the game and you can spot the idiots easily.
If I had a one click ignore feature I would by now have blocked hundreds of players.

Cannot you do that in pvp, I admit to being a complete newbie in that area.

Will probably just encourage battles of 'noob' calling between players. Even if this were to be implemented the player would have to be able to choose whether to have their information shown or not. Privacy=Important.

I prefer taking a noob and having a good laugh every now and then to this sort of "we are hardcore, you must have certain level or you are worthless". There are bad r12+ players, there are bad Obsidian armor players, there are bad I Have Many Leather-Bound Books... this is no reference, this is elitism.

I like this but...

Maybe this could be added on to the guild wars site and not the game, too much stuff on the game is confusing. So maybe a character search engine on the site would be better than on the game.

World of Warcraft has the armory which does basically what you want. I don't think this will work for Guild Wars because Guild Wars is suppossed to be a game where skill takes precendent over gear.

I don't want to be judged by what I have and haven't done. How would this be useful in either PvP or PvE?
